About me

Heya, my name is Amy (nicknamed Mimi as my brother couldn’t say my name when he was little). I lived most of my life in Cornwall, but moved to Nottingham at 18 to study French at university. Between 2008 and 2009 I spent a year living in the Loire valley in France, teaching English at a secondary school before returning to Nottingham to finish my degree. Since graduating, I have moved to Brighton and started work for an IT company – not my ideal job but it pays the bills! Just a few days before this site going live, my first gallery accepted my work (you can find them HERE) Lyrebird in Constantine where my mum also exhibits. I am hoping that this will be the start of a successful career and that eventually I will be able to become self-employed. I have always enjoyed making things as long as I can remember and have always leant more towards fabric rather than drawing, painting or sculpture etc. I learnt to sew on my great grandmother’s old Singer machine when I was very young, which was built into a table and worked with a treadle. I received my first sewing machine for my 13th birthday and have been hooked ever since! My friends and boyfriend all say that I have an obsession with fabric as my stash is overflowing, and I think they are right. Frequently I will awake in the middle of the night, my mind whirring over some technique or idea for my next project and I spend hours daydreaming over the fabric I wish I owned! (I have recently discovered Liberty prints and fallen a little bit in love!) Anyway, I could waffle on all day about fabric and sewing but I’ll save some of that for my blog posts.

I hope you enjoy reading and look forward to reading some comments!

Love,
